Special Awards – see here
(Retailer of the Year, FreeFrom Hero, FreeFrom Winners' buffet)
The judges will be looking for instances of exciting technical, gastronomic and even functional innovation in 'freefrom' food manufacture.
2. No Top 14
Celebrating those products which have gone the extra 13 miles and include none of the top 14 allergens! (See page 11 of the FSA Guidance.)
N.B. If the product does not carry any PAL - eg 'may contain' warnings - we assume that a full risk assessment has been carried out and that comprehensive allergen management protocols are in place so that even if one of the 14 major allergens is handled by the same factory there will be no risk to the allergic consumer.
Therefore, carrying a statement that the product is manufactured in a factory which also handles/uses x allergen will not bar that product from entering the No Top 14 category provided that it does not also carry a ‘may contain x allergen’ warning. For the FSA guidance on 'may contain' labelling see p 28 of this document.
3. Best product from a start-up
Sponsored for 2020 by Tesco
This category is only open to products manufactured by entrants who have been in business for less than two years (eg. they must have started trading no earlier than the 26th September 2017.) Products will only be considered if they have been entered in other categories. There will be a small supplemental charge of £25 per product (on top of the fee that you have paid to enter the original category) to enter for this award.
The award will be made based on the quality of the product and not on any other aspect of the company’s business.
