Kent & Fraser's Deliciously Gluten Free Toasts!
Kent & Fraser are really proud of their new Deliciously Gluten Free Toasts as they are complex products to make (on top of the complexities of being gluten-free). The process has to be done in two stages, all by hand, as Kent & Fraser are bakers at heart and make all their gluten-free products in their artisan bakery.
Filled with carefully selected combinations of nuts, seeds and dried fruits (they discovered the unique Pimenton in the Olive, Walnut & Pimenton Toast while travelling in Spain, sourcing it from Spain's oldest working water-mill!) these products are works of art.
Our panel thought these products were very pretty indeed, with a rather nice twice-toasted flavour. They really liked the interesting ingredients, and the different textures that the various combinations brought to the toasts: for instance the Cherry, Pecan & Poppyseed were crunchier than the Cranberry & Almond. The toasts are a nice mixture of crunchy and chewy. You can eat them with whatever you fancy, but each different flavour carries different cheese recommendations from the Cheesemaker of the Year, which will come in very handy for cheese enthusiasts!
Our only question is why the buttermilk, although since it is the very first ingredient it must be a very important ingredient. Apart from this, we reckon these are a great concept, perfect for a sweet (great with homemade blackcurrant jam) or savoury snack, and rendered very nutritious with the additions of fruits, seeds and nuts. Beautiful!
CHERRY, PECAN & POPPY SEED TOAST: Buttermilk, brown rice flour, pecans (12%), corn flour, sweetened black cherries (10%) (cherries, glucose-fructose syrup, colour: anthocyanins from grapes, natural flavouring), dates, poppy seeds (5%), gram flour, pasteurised free range egg, sunflower oil, sweetened sour cherries (2.5%) (cherries, sugar), sugar, raising agent: sodium bicarbonate; sea salt, molasses, stabiliser: xanthan gum; black pepper.
CRANBERRY & ALMOND TOAST: Buttermilk, brown rice flour, cranberries (17%) corn flour, almonds (11%), dates, sunflower seeds (4%), gram flour, pasteurised free range egg, sunflower oil, sugar, raising agent: sodium bicarbonate; orange zest, sea salt, molasses, stabiliser: xanthan gum; mixed spice, black pepper.
OLIVE, WALNUT & PIMENTON TOAST: Buttermilk, brown rice flour, black olives (14%), corn flour, walnuts (8%), sunflower seeds, gram flour, pasteurised free range egg, sunflower oil, sugar, raising agent: sodium bicarbonate; molasses, sea salt, stabiliser: xanthan gum; pimentón de la vera, rosemary, garlic powder, black pepper.
